The Catherine Tate Show started on the BBC on 26 October. BBC One controller Peter Fincham reportedly hoped to lure Tate to BBC One. However, she decided to stay with BBC Two, where she will not be as pressured to secure high ratings. Overnight rating say she secured a 4.7 million audience, higher than BBC1. Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive for the first episode. New Main Characters Characters who are new to Catherine Tate so far include: "I can do that" woman - This woman is always there to help out her friends in need, even though she cannot do the things she claims "she can do". For instance, her colleague needed someone to practice tennis with, and the woman happily accepts to assist her. However, she is abysmal at tennis and hits the balls far into trees. Ulster Mum - This woman is delighted that her youngest son has come out as gay. Even though he doesn't want any attention or mistreatment, his mum wants him to check out skirts, visit her friends, and go on gay parades. "Geordie Georgie - A frequent petitioner, who constantly tries to get her co-workers to sponsor her. Catherine stated on This Morning that Geordie Georgie is her favourite new character. This character is easily recognisable due to her rather large nose. Actress Patsy Palmer features in a "Gingers for Justice" campaign sketch wearing a Duracell battery costume. The Sun reported that Lauren would get married to Ryan, and Natalie Cassidy will aparently stop it and steal him. It was rumored that Series 3 was going to be the last series of the show. However, this rumor was settled by Catherine herself on ITV 1's This Morning 26 October 2006, saying this was the first she had heard of it and wishes to carry on with the show after the series. Catherine is planning on a break between the end of Series 3 and the start of Series 4. |
